Oh dear! We are all ready to pack up and move to Stanley! Kim promised she wouldn’t do this again - the-I-want-to-move-to-Tassie chant, but now I see what she means.
We three agree, this is the prettiest place in the world! Surrounded by coast line and sea, the emerald green hills and flats of the rich dairy and beef country that gently meanders into the water.
An historic town, beautifully preserved, is set against the backdrop of the magnificent rock formation called The Nut. To the north is mainland Australia, some 1000 odd kms away. It actually feels like we have landed in a temperate (definitely not tropical!) island!
Stanley is much like Kim’s precious local haunt of Tilba. It too, is dairy country so of course there’s another plus, and oh the heritage buildings painted in pretty pastels. Never before has she seen snowbells and sweet peas growing on the side of the road, and of course, these also make me think of England home.
Stanley has captured our hearts.
Deloraine is a pretty leafy town set on the most magical river.
The river is definitely Wind in the Willows style. I’m surprised I haven’t bumped into Ratty or Mole;) Kenneth Grahame would be in utter heaven.
There are platypus galore here! It’s so amazing! Kim had never seen a platypus before so you can imagine the excitement and the difficulty she had in remaining calm and quiet. The video footage was amazing - a big, fat platypus, scurrying along, over a log, turned to look at us, then ducked down for a nibble. Unfortunately, in her excitement, Kim hadn’t actually pressed play. So all we got was the ducking down for a nibble bit.
