Letter writers tend to love a good hearty list of Currentlys. I know I do. It’s the combination of a nice little sticky beak into the life of another, plus the list thing. I love a good list. They either feel promising or rewarding, and both of those feelings are ones I enjoy.
So I thought I’d give you my November list of Currentlys, and hopefully it might encourage you to make one of your own. Oh, and then you could pop it into a letter and send it to someone, just in time for Christmas! How cool would that be? No pressure, though;)
Okey doke, here we go ….
In November I am currently:
Reading: Lots of Substacks - Sparkle (Claire Venus); Small Stories (Laura Pashby); Heart Leap (Suzy Walker); Flourish and Flare (Aimee Francis) Audio book - Tim Winton’s Minimum of Two
Writing: Letters to my Nan for my subscription. Snippets of ideas around the Wild Wood folk as well as writing ideas for next year. Newsletters to lovely subscribers;)
Planting: Lots more lettuce, capsicums, chillies, eggplant, tomatoes, cucumber and zucchini.
Picking: Roses, sweet peas, salvias, greens, berries.
Harvesting: Garlic (best season of garlic ever!)
Thinking about: The possibility of some changes for my business for 2025. My marriage and how very precious it is.
Working on: Taking time out of my routine to be more present with things other than business.
Re arranging: My living room to accommodate another little writing space.
Eating: Mashed potato, kale and bacon mixed together with butter and cheese. Strawberries and silvan berries straight from the garden.
Talking about: narcissism and whether they can feel empathy (a bit random, I know!) Creativity and how important it is to take time for it.
I’m listening to: Ane Brun’s cover of Halo from the album Rarities. Podcasts - Claire Venus: Sparkle on Substack. Jenn Donovan: Small Business Made Simple. Penny Wincer: Not Too Busy to Write.
Watching: Nothing for November, so far.
Making: Weekly meals on the weekend, to save cooking during the week.
Grateful for: The 18 days we spent in Tassie just recently and all of the memories and moments that have now been added to our stories.
Remembering: When Lew was a toddler, sniffing flowers in the garden and exclaiming the names of them! And each person who I am reminded of whenever I wander around my garden. (See my Instagram highlights under: Memories for some of them).
Wishing: It would rain all week!
I think it’s your turn now. What are your November Currentlys?

The Lovely Letters Project …
Along with our monthly letter/pen pal exchange, some Lovely Letters members are also participating in The Travelling Letter. It originated with a a single letter, written by me, and then it was passed on to someone on the list. That person then reads my letter, writes one themselves, and then passes the bundle on to the next person. On it goes until all 115 or so members letters have been written.
It’s been making its way around the world since February this year and it’s been such a fun thing to take part in as a community of letter writers.
This past week I have received a good number of emails from The Travelling Letter participants which means the letter is continuing to land in people’s mail boxes all over the world. It’s now one mail box closer to arriving back home here in the Bega Valley. So excited!!
It’s been an adventure in patience that’s for sure, as each participating letter writer waits for their turn for the letter to arrive in their mailbox.

I thought I’d also share some fun Travelling Letter facts with you today while we are talking about it Are you ready?
So far it has:
Visited seven countries.
Been read by 51 people.
Made its way around 38 towns/cities.
Experienced four seasons.
Been lost once.
It still has:
69 mail boxes to go, before it makes its way back to me.
I wonder whose letter box it will arrive in next?
If you’d like to join in on our monthly snail mail exchange (not The Travelling Letter as the list for that is closed right now), and get back into the loveliness that is writing and receiving letters, then please always know that you are very welcome to join The Lovely Letters Project. It really is a gorgeous group of letter writing women.
Dear Nan …
The next letter in Dear Nan has made its way to paid subscriber’s inboxes. In this latest one, I share a snippet of my Nan and Grandpa’s early married life, as well as how they came about their family home.
I’m also typing up a favourite recipe from Nan’s recipe book, and finalising the design for the November digital writing paper.
I wonder if you can guess the recipe I’ll be sharing this month? Would you like a clue? Okey doke, well it’s a very popular old school small ‘cake’ in Australian households.
If you haven’t subscribed to Dear Nan but you’d like to check it out, you are more than welcome to use your ‘free read’ option over on Substack to check it out (if you haven’t used that already) . There is a letter each month, a recipe from Nan’s old recipe book, plus a piece of downloadable writing paper in a very Nanna-ish design which I know she would have adored. (A big thank you to Lew for creating the illustrations).
To read the free stuff, you’ll need to make sure you are subscribed to this Betty Mae Wrote newsletter:
